Surface is a collection and conjunction of fragments (stories) which even though are not directly related to each other in a subsequential way, connect and complete a round view of society and the individual in specific fragile moments.
The first released text of this project is The Steady Fragment, a juxtaposition of two texts, one personal interview with the CEO of a Construction Company in Albania (text written in braille) and the official information material taken from brochures and publications of the same company( in text script). In view of the historical context of the bloom of constructions in Tirana after the ‘90 as well as the spread of informality not only in legal terms but also in ways of operating and organizing the business, the informal interview with the CEO be it translated in braille or read by a blind person is not unfamiliar to the audience but is inadmissible to the ear.
Albeit using a journalistic medium, Steady does not intend to investigate informalities and irregularities in society rather than discuss the notion of stability and steadiness that building and constructing have in a controversial substratum, by also raising questions about knowledge and understanding in a particular moment as a moment of loss or failure to transmit the meaning or to capture it. It uses blind people as the medium to transmit the content while using visible and touchable surfaces to conceal it. These blind people represent our incapability but still this incapability is not a closed option.
